With watches no longer exclusively for men, it’s time to get in the know. Think of this post as your primer for all the watch knowledge you can shake a stick at. Today we’re going to take a look at six features of a good ladies watch:
Size
This is one of the most overlooked aspects when picking out a timepiece. For those with smaller wrists, oversized watches are actually too big and can overpower your hand. You should be able to see the whole face while wearing it – they say that good things come in small packages!
Dial Shape
One thing that’s not always taken into consideration is how round or square-shaped the dial is. A round dial will look thinner and more conservative and is perfect for a more formal outfit, while a square dial will appear bolder and adds character.
Bezel
The bezel of a ladies watch is usually less pronounced than the other watches in your collection, but it’s also much smaller than that of my husband-of-15 watches (an Omega Speedmaster). You should look for one with a smooth edge, as this keeps the metal from chipping or scratching.
Crystals
One huge difference between men’s and women’s watches is crystal protection! Women typically are offered greater crystal protection than men’s to help combat scratches and dings.
Case
A watch case is an important detail when it comes to selecting a ladies’ watch because it can make a huge difference in the type of daily wearability you get out of the timepiece. For example, with larger-sized watches, there’s more leeway in case diameter and thickness. Most women are also not going to go for a men’s style watch as they tend to be bigger/clunkier with too much metal on the wrist. A good case size for a ladies’ watch is 30mm-34mm, while a men’s watch should probably be 38mm-42mm.
Water Resistant: A good water resistant watch will allow you to go swimming without taking any damage. It will also keep you in touch with what’s going on around your wrist while working, cooking, or going outside in bad weather. If you’re not a swimmer, don’t worry: most water resistant watches will be able to handle light rain as well. But if this feature is especially important to you, read the label and make sure that your watch is waterproof.
A lladies watch can be subtle, stylish, or even with a bit of edge to it. One thing’s for certain though: the quality of your timepiece should reflect the type of woman you are.
